There are some things you never forget... We grow up, we move on, so we tuck them away somewhere, and nature takes over. Weeds grow around them. The walls crack. The screen fades to black, like the nostalgia for a bygone era.
That console—the one from when we were ten, the one from Wednesday mornings, the one we hid under our pillows—has become a ruin. Time has left it there, with its worn-out buttons and dead pixels.
But two small cult characters have returned. On their scaffolding, they climb. They repair. They clean, like rekindling a fire we thought was dead. Above, anger rumbles. Barrels roll. Flames crackle at their feet.
They are the heroes of our pixelated childhood, the ones we guided with our fingertips without really knowing we loved them. They’re there, stubborn, armed with nothing, bringing light back to something we thought was lost.
That’s nostalgia according to Lapolemik : not the sadness of a bygone past, but the gentle stubbornness of those who refuse to let certain things disappear for good. Pop culture, the video games of our childhood, all the retro items from the ’80s, the Japanese culture that was everywhere back then—all of this deserves a second look.
